Deaton Lysaght Architects were appointed by a client in Rush to build a house on the site of his horticultural business, that would use the most sustainable forms of energy to be an energy-passive house and also a very comfortable family home.

This house was designed using extensive insulation, heat-recovery ventilation, air-to-water heat-pump and geo-thermal-fired underfloor heating systems with individual room temperature controls to provide sustainable comfort in all areas, including the heated indoor swimming pool.

The heating systems are monitored with an integrated programmer, which controls the most economical heating source, and provide a daily report on the heating costs in the house. Each room has individual thermostats which control the motorised valve on the appropriate circuit. The central programmer can be activated remotely from a mobile phone, and the heating system can be switched on or off from anywhere in the world.
