The original building contained some leaks at parapets, and was not in compliance with fire and disability access regulations. The proposed works included, demolition of vacant outbuildings including a two storey dwelling facing the rear lane and construction of a 3 storey stepped new offices extension to create an accessible new main entrance whilst ensuring minimal overshadowing to adjacent buildings
The installation of modern services into an old building, integration of old and new work were part of the scope of proposed works. A new strategy for entrance and circulation was implemented, featuring a glazed double height entrance hall, and revision of intended levels of circulation patterns. This provides access to updated office accommodation as well as providing for more generous canteen and meeting room facilities which will enable the building to continue to be used as a County Council office as well as an administrative centre for the town.
