Located in the Bishoplands estate in Kildare town, this social housing development created 32 new A-rated homes comprising of 6 one-bed terraced single storey houses, 5 two-bed semi-detached and terraced two storey houses, 17 three bed semi-detached and terraced houses and 3 four-bed detached and semi-detached houses, and a three bed detached with single storey family flat attached. The houses were designed by Deaton Lysaght Architects with distinctive front-end gables and brick bay windows.

The development was fully part M compliant with a number of units designed as enhanced units specially designed with accessibility in mind. One of the units in the development was a 2-storey house with an independent living apartment for a resident with specific disability requirements. Deaton Lysaght worked closely with the occupational therapist to develop the design of the apartment so that all aspects of the design were suitable to the tenant’s requirements.

The project was managed by DLA, working meticulously with Kildare Country Council Architects and Clerk of works. Design team meetings were arranged with constant inspections and supervision by consulting engineers Waterman Moylan and quantity surveyors Tom McNamara and Partners. Reviews of the construction programme and financials were conducted at progress meetings every month. DLA worked closely with the contractor to ensure that site management was maintained at all times and the residents in the estate were informed on the progress of the works.
